CREATIVE CRUYFF COURT, ROTTERDAM
Stadionviaduct Rotterdam (Breeweg)
- FullCourt/FullColor DreamCourt/Mural
- Grand Opening/Demo
This project was an absolute beast!
We spent 4 weeks painting an outdoor football court, a regulation size 3x3 Basketball court, a 300 sqm general play area and a 180sqm mural in Rotterdam south for the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
The aim for the Creative Cruyff Courts is to turn three neglected, urban areas into safe and positive spaces. The project was executed in Rotterdam, Barcelona and London.
This largest DreamCourts project to date was extremely rewarding. Creatively, but also for the immediate social impact it generated. We saw kids playing football and basketball, riding their scooters, and using the newly placed calisthenics before we even finished our artwork, all in this public area that used to be not much more than a dusty and dirty underpass.
To see an urban area being transformed from an unsettling and unsafe place into a space for positive and athletic interaction is a reminder why we started our DreamCourts project in the first place.
The resulting artwork shows a number of portraits of the late Johan Cruyff, one of the Netherlands best known and most influential foorball players, in bright and bold colors.
A massive opening event hosted by freestyle legend Soufiane Touzani was the perfect way to celebrate all the positivity and creativity involved in this incredible project.
